Kain Heiland was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m. on Saturday,April 1, 2023 by York County Deputy Coroner Scott Pennewell, according to a release by the office the following day.
Kain was later identified by a family friend, which has been verified by Daily Voice.
The coroner's office was called to a "reported fatality of a juvenile after a shooting incident" in the first block of First Avenue in Red Lion Borough at 8:55 p.m., as stated in the release.
The cause of death was "a gunshot wound to the chest (via the back)" and manner of his death was homicide according to the autopsy results at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown on Monday, April 3, 2023,
The coroner's office defines homicide as "death at the hands of another," as stated in the updated release.
Pennsylvania State Troopers were also dispatched to the scene of the shooting around 10:30 p.m. and they continue to investigate.
"There is no danger to the community," Trooper James Grothey said in a release.
Grothey also confirmed to Daily Voice that no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed in this case.
Kain's family friend, Terrica Agosto launched a GoFundMe campaign to help his family.
She explained that he "was spending the night at a friends house and a nightmare happened accidentally and she lost her oldest son Kain in a sue to a gun shot wound."
The money raised by the campaign will "help support Devin Rexroth, her fiance Kevin, and Kains dad Brian Heiland and Emily with the costs they will all need to cover his funeral arrangements."
In the first 12 hours, the campaign has raised $1,665 of a $10,000 goal from 26 donations, with the top donation of $500 coming from Nathan Kauffman.
T-shirt are also being sold to help the family, according to a Facebook post by a family friend.
Funeral and memorial service details have not been released, but a candle light vigil was held on Sunday in Red Lion.
